NAFI Master CFII & Top Gun Program Manager Greg Flanik

Greg Flanik works part-time with Top Gun Flight Training and is a Master Certified Flight Instructor and FAA Safety Team Representative for the Cleveland Flight Standards District Office. He instructs out of Burke Lakefront and Cuyahoga Country Airports.

Greg has been instructing for Top Gun Flight Training since 2004. He specializes in Technically Advanced Aircraft Instruction which focuses on utilizing the latest technologies (GPS Navigation, Auto Pilot, Traffic Collision Avoidance and Data Link Weather) in flight.

Greg finished fourth in the Cleveland 300 Air race contested Labor Day weekend at the 2004 Cleveland National Air Show. His finish was the best for all "Rookie" racers in the competition and this earned him the "Flying Magazine" Rookie Air Race Champion Trophy.

Not all of his flying has been instructional or air racing in nature. Greg and his wife have taken trips all over the Great Lakes, Appalachians, East and Gulf Coasts. He has flown in the Rockies and in the desert southwest in turbo prop and high performance aircraft. Greg's flight experience is on platforms as simple as a Piper Tomahawk all the way up to aircraft as complex as multi engine Piper Seminole's and turbo prop aircraft on the Pilatus PC-12.

He writes, produces and presents numerous safety seminars for Top Gun Flight Training and the FAA Safety Team. His topics span from aviation weather, Visual and Instrument Flight Rules GPS navigation techniques to flying in the mountains.

Greg is also involved with the National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI). He is also a member of the Airplane Owners and Pilots Association, Northern Ohio Business Aviation Association (NOBAA) and Angle Flight America.

Aviation is not the only vocation in his life. When not flying, he can be found working in the Information Technology department at Baldwin-Wallace College and advising evening and weekend adult college students. In addition to his work in IT and flight instruction Greg is a USA Track & Field Master level official and Ohio High School Athletic Association Track & Field Official.

Of all these things, Greg proud of the fact that he is a flight instructor. He enthusiastically shares his love and passion for aviation with all he comes in contact with. Underlying this joy of flight is the deep rooted understanding that safety is of paramount importance. Safety of flight is the foundation of his instruction. The joy and excitement of flight is found in the heart of his instruction. Whether it is in the cockpit, the flight briefing room or the lecture hall, Greg invites you to share his passion for flight.
